On Labor Day in 1960, Kenneth Volk and Robert McLain began their sales program for their new development in Dublin called San Ramon Village. This development was to be the only two-county development in Northern California at that time. San Ramon Village would be an area that covered 4,300 acres and extended from the industrial area just south of what is now I-580 to the area north of Alcosta Blvd., which included the golf course and surrounding community that they developed. On November 3, 1960, 40 Mayflower moving vans lead a caravan of families to Dublin that would be the first new residences of San Ramon Village. The first new homes were off of Hillrose Dr. At the time, the population in Dublin was around 750 people. Within one year, the population grew to 2,670. San Ramon Village had several different neighborhoods within its community. Most of the proposed 9,500 homes would be built by Volk-McLain who contracted out work to Bob and Bill Whitney of Whitney Brothers Construction Company, but there were other builders that would also leave their footprint before all was said and done. In 1965, Volk-McLain stopped building homes and served as a middleman selling prepared lots to construction firms.
Below is an attempt to capture the neighborhoods in the city and give descriptions (where possible) of how those homes were designed in that particular area.
